Opening The Gates Improvisational Performance - January 14^th & 15^th, 2005, 7:30pm

At Highways Performance Space in Santa Monica

A week of movement workshops, performances, and jams in sunny Santa Monica, California. The festival is a celebratory exploration of the variety of improvisational movement styles and alternative dance techniques; featuring Contact Improvisation and including Body-Mind Centering, Capoeira, Break Dancing, Release Technique, Authentic Movement, and Alexander Technique.

Featuring a 5-day intensive workshop with internationally renowned instructor and performer Nina Martin, founding member of Channel Z, an innovative performance collective, with Stephen Petronio, Robin Feld, Danny Lepkoff, Randy Warshaw and Diane Madden. Nina has also collaborated with the pioneers of Contact Improvisation Steve Paxton, Nancy Stark Smith and Lisa Nelson and teaches all over the world, recently in Japan and Russia.

Also featuring Lower Left Performance Collective from San Diego. Co-founded by Nina Martin in 1995, Lower Left will be teaching several workshops and performing in Opening The Gates: Festival Faculty Performance on Jan 14^th & 15^th @ 7:30pm. Visiting artists include Rebecca Bryant, Alicia Marván, Jessica Radulovich, Karen Schaffman, and Andrew Wass.

Other workshops in improvisation and alternative dance technique with Teri Carter, Shel Wagner Rasch, Mary Herzog, Holly Rothschild, and Jones Welsh.
